The Wessex Chamber Choir came to Farnham Castle on the last day of April to give a mixture of choral pieces to suit all tastes.
The programme included (the oldest) "Ultimi me sospiri" written by Philippe Verdalot in the early sixteenth century, a balanced vibrant and expressive performance with impeccable diction; a set of three madrigals and anthems by Tomkins, the less well known and musically challenging "O Sacrum Convivium" by the modern English composer Gabriel Jackson, ending with a selection of folk songs and close harmony modern numbers.
The programme was interspersed with a sensitive performance of the Sonata in B minor, for violin and piano, BWV 1014, by J.S. Bach. This was a diverse programme with something for everyone, beautiful and enthusiastic musicianship in an historic setting.
